The Perfect Brew: Black Tea

 

Black tea is generally stronger in flavor and is known as “red tea” in China. Many non coffee drinkers enjoy a black tea instead and it is often enjoyed with milk, cream or dairy alternatives to soften the sometimes bitter taste much the same as coffee. Savory qualities are the defining element in black teas, the rich, full and satisfying flavors are what we look for in a breakfast tea that can shake us out of our morning funk. Black tea can also be enjoyed with honey or lemon.

To manufacture black tea, the leaves are plucked and withered to reduce moisture. Then, the leaves may be left whole and rolled, known as orthodox process, or they may undergo a cut-tear-curl (CTC) process. Finally, the leaves are oxidized and dried. Black tea leaves are more oxidized than white, green, and oolong teas and generally have a stronger flavor and aroma.

  • 2 teaspoons of black tea.
  • Add 90 degree water.
  • Steep for 2 – 3 minutes.
